The city of Bordeaux

Learn by immersion in a must-see French city

I moved from Montpellier to Bordeaux in 2015, and I can only recommend you to come and visit this city! Bordeaux is a dynamic, sporty, human sized city, and really ideal to enjoy nature as well as the city.

Many cultural events are organized there, which are perfect occasions for an immersion in the French language. Wine lovers will also be delighted: Bordeaux wine is world-famous, so this is an opportunity to schedule a wine tasting and learn more about the region’s wine and its production.

Bordeaux is one of the most beautiful cities in France, and is crossed by a river: the Garonne. But beyond the architecture, history, monuments and gastronomy of the city, there is also a whole region to discover!

Learning by immersion in Bordeaux will allow you to improve your level of French in a pleasant environment, conducive to learning French expressions and French culture in general.

Enjoy the historical heritage of southwest France

Bordeaux is a city filled with many must-see monuments! After Paris, it is the city with the most protected buildings. It is also frequently called “little Paris”! But personally I think that Bordeaux is much more than that, it is unique and I really like rediscovering the city through the eyes of my students.

Bordeaux has an important historical heritage, but it is also very modern. Each district of the city has its own history and is worth visiting. For example: the Saint Michel district, whose basilica is listed as a UNESCO world heritage site, but also the Place de Pey Berland with its tower and the Saint André Cathedral, or the old historic gates such as the “Porte Cailhau”, “Porte Dijaux” and “Porte de la Monnaie” (to name a few of them).

Of course, I will be able to advise you on the places not to be missed and tell you how to get there. You can also venture into the small narrow streets of the city, discover the artisanal shops, taste culinary specialties…

Near Bordeaux you can also visit other cities easily, such as Arcachon, Toulouse, Biarritz, or villages like Saint-Emilion and Sarlat. The Bordeaux region is waiting for you!

Activities in Bordeaux to practice French in a real context

In Bordeaux, there are many activities to practice French!

  • A walk in the city: visit the city district by district, discover small independent shops, take advantage of the flea markets, and even go choose a good book in French at the Mollat bookstore
  • A cultural outing: visit a museum, do a culinary tasting or an oenology workshop, go see a show, a play, a comedy show, a concert by French singers, or even go to the cinema
  • A sporting activity: take a padel class, take part in a yoga class, rent a bike…

Also don’t forget pay attention to the details anywhere you go, so you can learn more about French culture and French puns! During our lessons, I will be able to explain to you an expression or a sentence that you have read or heard during your outings without understanding it.

From time to time, we can also go to a quiet and comfortable coffee shop for your lesson, to strengthen your immersion!
